Located in the heart of Winter Park, the purpose of our school is to meet an ongoing need in Central Florida for an early childhood education program of the highest quality. Research continually shows that active play is the most natural way young children learn! Therefore, our curricula abound with activities that encourage children to create, explore, invent, observe, listen, question, imagine, sing, dance, and more! And we believe that it’s these hands-on, multi-sensory, and developmentally appropriate experiences that cultivate a firm foundation for future academic success.
The First Congregational Weekday Preschool and Kindergarten is a functional program of the First Congregational Church of Winter Park, and it serves a ministry of education in the community. The essence of this ministry is to meet an ongoing need for an early childhood education program of the highest quality. This standard is entirely dependent upon the full commitment and endorsement from the church for continuous upgrading and development of the school.
We believe that early childhood education is unique and that it is the beginning of the home-school relationship. This relationship is built on mutual trust and understanding, and parent involvement is critical to a successful educational experience.
As young children move from close family groups into the larger social world they gain experiences in social living. Fostering positive relationships with peers allows children to experience a variety of opportunities to lead, follow, contribute ideas, negotiate, and compromise.
Young children are active, and play is the natural way in which they learn. Learning experiences are designed to provide novelty, purpose and challenge. Activities are planned that require active thinking and experimenting. Play allows children to discover how things work and to develop an awareness of concepts that are prerequisites for reading and other important academic tasks.
Our program is designed to allow children to develop habits of observation, questioning and listening. The learning experiences we provide cultivate a firm foundation for future academic endeavors and focus on the unique development of each child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive abilities.
“Ask not how smart is this child? Ask rather, how is this child smart?”
